Smoke
Outlook: Whitewater Fire, Willamette NF
Issued
for: Friday, August 4, 2017
Air Resource Advisor: Duncan
Leao (dleao@fs.fed.us)
Smoke:
Widespread lingering smoke will be visible in the
vicinity of the Whitewater fire and surrounding areas. The morning inversion will begin to lift
around noon and smoke from the fire is expected to drift to the east in the afternoon
causing a slight improvement in air quality for Detroit area and the
Willamette Valley during the day. With
the change in wind direction, smoke may impact more communities east of the
Cascades such as Redmond, Prineville, Madras and Sisters. Expect downslope/down canyon settling of
smoke around Detroit and Breitenbush during the evening. Other regional fires throughout Oregon will
add to increased regional haze and poor air quality.
Fire:
The fire grew approximately 220 acres yesterday for
a total of 4,800 acres. Fire activity today
and tomorrow is expected to increase slightly with the alignment of west
winds and upslope/upcanyon winds as well as low relative humitidy.
