Wildfire Smoke Impacting Northeastern Oregon. Forecasted to also impact Central Oregon.
Three large wildfires and 10 smaller fires are now affecting air quality in Oregon. Additionally, there are several wildfires burning in Washington as well.
The large wildfires (> 100 acres) are listed below.
The Rail fire, located 10 miles WSW of Unity is currently burning 500 acres of timber and heavy logging slash in Northeastern Oregon.
The Bybee Creek fire, located 18 miles NE of Prospect is burning 416 acres in timber.
The Weigh Station fire, located 13 miles SE of Pendleton is burning 500 acres in grass and timber.
Air quality has degraded to moderate levels this morning in Pendleton, La Grande, and Baker City.
The forecast calls for moderate levels of smoke in parts of NE Oregon and in the Central Cascades, as shown below. Klamath Falls, Sisters, and Seneca may all see moderate levels of smoke with short-periods of heavier smoke, particularly overnight as smoked gets trapped in valleys due to night time temperature inversions. Overnight smoke may also drain into Redmond, Bend, Tomorrow a west wind will blow smoke into the communities east of the fires.
